Beyond Gong is built around community. It is a gathering of practitioners coming together around the instrument that brought many of us here in the first place, and over two days we play, listen, share and learn from each other as much as from me.
There is an agenda and it is a loose one. I teach advanced gong playing throughout the weekend, in a way meant to be accessible to everyone in the room and aimed at leaving you genuinely at home with the instrument. Around that there are talks and cymatics demonstrations, a song circle for overtone singing and whatever else moves through us, and time with the newest instruments in the field.
The gong and the overtones are the centre, and the rest is all there: bowls, flutes, harmonium, shruti box, bells, chimes, kalimba, didgeridoo, rain stick, ocean drum, shamanic drum. We reach for them as we feel called and let the room decide where it wants to go.
Bring what you play. Some of the best hours of a weekend like this come from somebody putting an instrument in somebody else’s hands.
Practitioners, yoga teachers and musicians who want two days of real community and advanced practice around the gong. If you have been through one of my trainings this is the room to come back to, and if you have not, you are just as welcome.
Everybody who registers gets my online sound course if they want it, at no extra cost. It is over 20 hours of self paced video, the same course I sell on its own, and it runs continuously, so you can start the day you register and work at whatever speed suits you.
It carries 20 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education.
That is what makes this weekend work for a room holding both beginners and people who have been playing for years. If you are newer to it, the course between now and September is how you arrive ready to play, and the two days are then about playing rather than about catching up.
The course carries a certificate of its own, on passing a written evaluation.
Expect real playing time, shared laughs, and room to be genuinely creative with the instrument. What people take home from a room like this is usually the thing they did not plan for.
Both days run 9:30am to 5:00pm. There is no timetable beyond that on purpose: the room decides the order and how long we stay with anything. This is what we go beyond the basics into.

How a room is held, what changes when you are the one holding it, and what to do when something unexpected moves through the people in front of you.

Registration is not refundable and a place does not move to another date, and with eight places a place you take is a place nobody else can. If I cancel the weekend or move it, you choose a full refund or your place at the next one.
